Lesson #6

Poaching, or the illegal hunting of wildlife, is a serious issue at South Africa’s game parks. While the park system has historically deployed armed rangers to combat this crime, park services and conservation agencies have recently used a variety of flight-based tools—-unmanned aerial vehicles and observation aircraft:

Drones and Aircraft used to combat poaching

Testing Drones to Catch Poachers

Anti-Poaching Drones (Nepal)

Acrobatic Pilot Trains Airborne Park Rangers (Kenya) [parental guidance suggested]

Do you think the use of drones to combat poaching is effective? Should it be used more? Are there better methods to combat illegal hunting?

On May 25 at 11:00AM, the simulators in the Aviation Learning Center will be loaded with observation planes or drones for you to test out to determine their effectiveness in wildlife conservation.
