As we continue to prepare for the Museum’s re-opening, and as we simultaneously ramp-up our digital education offerings for students, our podcast team is sad to announce a delay in our “Collections” miniseries, but thrilled to share this interview with retired NASA Astronaut Mike Mullane instead.
Mike grew up a child of the space race and realized his dream of space flight as an astronaut for the Space Shuttle program. In today’s interview, which was recorded as part of a Trivia Night program the Museum put on, he takes questions from the audience about his training and experiences in weightlessness. He also helps us answer a few trivia questions about life as an astronaut. Can you get all of the correct answers before he does?
Mike Mullane will return (virtually) to The Museum of Flight on June 9th to present “The Astronaut Experience.” Register for this free event here.

Special thanks to those who have been able to grant financial support to the podcast during this time. You keep this program going.
If you’re looking for more space-themed podcast episodes, check out this earlier interview with Dr. Bill Barry, NASA Chief Historian. You might also like this chat with Dr. Teasel Muir-Harmony of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum about what the Apollo 11 astronauts got up to once they’d returned from walking on the Moon. Of course, we can’t talk space without highlighting the smallest artifact in The Museum of Flight’s collection. Listen here.
